We are always looking for volunteers to assist with various activities associated with the proliferation of our mission.  If you would like to participate as a volunteer please contact one of the board members.

Board of Directors

The board of directors of the NCAFA&E is responsible for determining the organization's mission and how it will be carried out.  The board is also responsible for organizational planning, fiscal monitoring, board recruitment, as well as other duties that support the arts and humanities in our community.

Current President   

SUE GRITTS was born in Clinton AR., received here BSE and MA+ degrees from the U of A, taught business classes 13 years and then went into administration for the next 15 yrs. as director of two new vocational-technical schools in Morrilton and Leslie. She opened Fairfield Fashions in 1982 and sold it in 1987, was co-owner and realtor of Resort Property Management in FFBay for 9 yrs. She has served on many boards professionally, socially and culturally. She has 3 daughters and sons-in-law and 4 granddaughters. Hobbies include (but not limited to) sewing, painting, woodworking and gardening.

 

LEA BERRY

 was born in N.C., is married to Russ Berry, has two children, Jim and Brenda, and five grandchildren. Lea worked for Baptist Health in North Little Rock 30 years before retiring from Registered Nursing. The Berry’s moved to FFB from North Little Rock in 1998. Lea is president of NCA Artist League, and a member of Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills, Xi Gamma Kappa, DAR, Arts and Crafts Corner, and Literary Club. She has served as secretary, vice-president, and is currently serving as president of the NCAFAE Board.

LARRY ARNDT retired to Fairfield Bay with his wife Geri from Muskego, WI. Graduated from Luther College with a B A in Business Administration. Held Senior Management positions in several companies covering several market areas. Retired from the Defense Industry. Served the local community as Treasurer of several churches. In retirement he continues to serve the community as treasurer of several organizations both non-profit and for profit. Has small bookkeeping-tax business.

 

 

 

BETTY VAGEDES  

was born in southern Oklahoma. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Liberal Studies Degree. She retired in 1990 after 25 years of service in the Department of the Air Force. Five of those years were spent in Japan. The final years of her career were spent formulating policy and procedures at the command level and traveling as a civilian augmentee for contracting with the command's Inspector General Team. Since their retirement, she and her husband, enjoy life in the Ozarks and participating in the multitude of family events generated by their large blended family. She is interested in promoting an awareness and appreciation of the arts in young people, particularly those living in remote rural locations that do not have the access to museums and theatres available to urban youngster.

 

 

  Current Secretary

OPAL BROOKS ALDRIDGE enjoys studying, Journaling, and Christian counseling. A wife of 49 years, Opal went back to school after the four children were grown. In North Carolina, she enjoyed being a youth worker for 13 years at church and the Pied Piper for the Girl Scouts. She has served on the advisory board for the N. C. Home Economist. Besides singing when the children were young, she enjoyed Summer Theater, the Symphony, and the many musical groups of Charlotte. "My first love is God, family, friends, and the culture of the gentle arts of music, books, studying, and learning, which I pray I never stop."

 

 

Lola Shattuck

moved to FFB in 1999. Enjoys playing golf, bridge (games in general), traveling and a full range of music. Started college after her 5th child started school, holds a BA in Political Science, MA in Medical Sociology & worked on her PHD in Health Education. Worked at SIU Medical School in research for 7 years and at Blue Cross/Blue Shield Assn for 17 in marketing and operations. Over the years Lola has been active in many community organizations(BSA, 4H, Lions, golf Assn.). Tries to spend time with family who are spread out from one end of the US to the other.

 

 

Dick Strawn 

with wife Anne, moved to Fairfield Bay in August of 2006. He has a background in college teaching, as a performing violinist (chamber music, soloist, concertmaster), as a private teacher of violin and viola, and as conductor of university and community orchestras. His background includes: Professor of Music Emeritus at Fort Lewis College, Cadek Conservatory of Music, Antioch College, The Ohio State University, Utah State University, Knox College, University of Wyoming, and Southern Illinois University. Dick was also a member of the following Resident Ensembles: Hughes String Quartet, Western Arts Trio, and Illinois Quartet. His other professional experience include the New Orleans Philharmonic and Concertmaster of Chattanooga Symphony.

 

Pamma Lee Henderson

wife, mother, sister and friend. Assoc. of Arts from Westark College, Fort Smith, Bachelors of Art Education from Univ. of the Ozarks, Clarksville, Ar. and Master of Arts from Univ. of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
