Newsletter Fall 2011

We had a great year last year. Over 5000 students and teachers participated in NCAFA&E school programs in 2010-2011. Over $16,000 was spent to bring concerts and other art opportunities to the communities and schools in Clinton, Shirley, Fairfield Bay, Bee Branch ,Concord, Greers Ferry and Quitman. All programs are free for participants. Funding is provided by matching grants received from the Arkansas Arts Council, a partner agency from the National Endowment for the arts and loyal supporters of the arts. Become an NCAFA&E Program Builder, Patron, Supporter, Friend or make a donation of any amount to help bring the arts to these communities. NCAFA&E is an all volunteer group so every penny helps make art opportunities available to area students and adults. Your donations are tax deductible. Last year the board discontinued memberships and ticket fees resulting in increased attendance at the concerts. Donations to NCAFA&E broaden the impact of the Arts in North Central Arkansas.

In 2010-2011 six educational programs went to schools in Clinton, Shirley, Bee Branch, Concord, Greers Ferry, and Quitman. Programs included David Burgess, Holiday Puppets' Sue Pico, Stas' Productions, Tell A Tale Children's Theater and Toucam Jam. 2011-2012 education programs include the Art Mobile, from the Arkansas Art Center, Tell A Tale "Christmas Carol" at Clinton School on December14., Cleveland Trio on September 16. Other requested programs will be provided as funding permits.

Our first concert will be the Cleveland Trio at the Kirk of Hills on September 18 at 3 PM, 250 Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay. This exciting threesome has been a virtual pioneer in the world of chamber music. Stephen Warner on violin, Carolyn Gadiel Warner on piano and violin and James Umble on saxophone use their unusual combination to produce a totally unique musical experience. Their repertoire consist of traditional, familiar classical as well as folk, ethnic, avant-garde and jazz.

A Sunday afternoon with the Bob Boyd Sounds on October 9th at 3 PM playing at the Lions Club on Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay. Four musicians who have spent a lifetime entertaining and performing educational concerts of music from the Big Band Swing and Sinatra era to the music of Stevie wonder and Ray Charles. Solos, four part harmonies and tales of their musical history provide an afternoon of pure delight. The diverse and fast moving program will have you tapping your feet and wanting more.

Tatiana Roitman Mann and David Gerstein will be at the Kirk of Hills on Sunday, November 6 at 3 PM. Tatiana has appeared as a pianist soloist across North America and Europe and this summer in Australia. David is principle cellist with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. They bring prestigious international experience to the concert stage with their love of classic chamber music alongside less frequently heard modern works. Their performance may include such composers as Gershwin, Chopin, Mozart, and perhaps Duarte-Lopez. They have played in many venues together and have attended the same schools .

In the Spring, we will be going to Clinton and Shirley. We hope to have some big surprises for you.

Thank you for your support and participation. We can always use volunteers and ideas.
